More than 70 new varieties
Dobies launches its 2017 seed catalogue on September 15 with a new look and more than 70 new varieties.
Here’s the pick of the crop…
Pumpkin Rouge Vif d’Etampes: A reddish-orange flat pumpkin which yields two to four 9kg fruits per plant. As well as making a tasty addition to winter meals, they’re great for Halloween carving. Moderate resistance to powdery mildew.

Broad Bean Oscar: Compact, branching plants that are ideal for patio containers, producing good crops of fine quality, creamy-green beans (approx. 4-5 per pod). The pod set is uniform and usually you can harvest the plant in one single pick.

Tomato Artisan Indigo Pear Drops: Between 600 and 1,000 fruits per plant under ideal growing conditions. The first ‘pear-shaped’ fruited variety in this series. One inch-long yellow fruits with purple shoulders.

Spinach Rubino F1: A round-leaved, mid-green variety with bright red stems and leaf veins, ideal for use as baby leaves. An ideal summer or winter variety, it is best suited to spring and autumn sowings. Mildew resistant and frost tolerant.

Sunflower Buttercream F1 (tall): Early blooming, with creamy-vanilla flowers. Ideal for a vase, as it’s pollen-free, and it keeps on producing more flowers. Ht. 1.2-1.5m (4-5’).

Marigold Strawberry Blonde: Appears to have several different colours on the same plant. A sturdy variety with excellent weather tolerance. Ideal for borders, with blooms that open out into a peachy-pink colour. Ht. 25cm (10”).

Ageratum Cloud Nine Mixed: A new series bred for its uniformity. It has darker flower buds, scented foliage and is early flowering, (May to first frosts). Ht. 10-12 cm (4-5”).

Petunia Tidal Wave Silver F1: Terrific recovery from rain, produces ‘hedge-like’ mounds, or great rivers of ground-smothering silvery blue, pink-flushed blooms.
