Largest trial of its type in the UK

Woolmans, famous for more than a century for its chrysanthemums, has become a leading supplier of dahlias, with this summer’s trials of more than 100 cultivars on its East Anglian trial field.

The nursery believes it to be the largest trial of vegetatively propagated dahlias in the UK.

None of the varieties are offered by Woolmans yet, but all were viewed during a Dutch trial immediately after torrential rain last summer.

Resilience to bad weather

They were selected the UK because of their resilience to bad weather.

Woolmans’ Laura Oakes said: “Viewed between the frequent torrential downpours we have experienced so far this summer, it looks as though many of them are standing up equally well to what the British weather has been throwing at them.”
