Celebrating late autumn and the run-up to Christmas

November 1: Sharing the Wisley Library Treasures, Wisley
From 2-4pm, the Wisley Garden Library brings out special books from its collections for display. Drop in and chat to librarians about the objects and why they are important to the RHS.

November 1-2: Autumn apple display, Harlow Carr
See displays of apples, grown in the north of England.

November 1-30: Winter warmers meal deal, Hyde Hall
Warm up with a two-course lunch for £10.95 per person (noon-2pm).

November 1, 8, 15, 22: Autumn guided walks, Hyde Hall.
Every Tuesday during November, January, and February. Enjoy soup and a scone for £4 in the café or restaurant after your walk.

November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30: Little Acorns Pre-School Gardening Club, Hyde Hall
The club encourages children to engage with the natural world, from 10.30am until noon.

November 4: Free Day Friday, Harlow Carr, Rosemoor, Hyde Hall
All four RHS gardens are free for everyone today to enjoy their autumn finery.

November 4-6: RHS Late Fruit and Vegetable Competition, Wisley
See entries in more than 60 classes, bring apples for identification, and taste and buy Wisley-grown apples.

November 5–6: Autumn Woodfest, Hyde Hall
Woodfest, sponsored by Stihl, celebrates traditional country skills, seasonal produce and local crafts, including willow weaving, heavy horses pulling logs, peg making, woodcarving, pole lathing, spoon carving and whistle making.

November 7, 14, 21, 28, 1-3pm: RHS Advisory Service, Harlow Carr
Visit the desk in the entrance conservatory to get face-to-face gardening advice from an expert RHS advisor. Also 11am-3pm, Saturday, November 5.

November 10: Compost making, Hyde Hall
Demonstration about making your own compost. Booking essential.

November 11: Linocut – Creative Christmas Workshop, Harlow Carr
Helen will guide you through all the basic skills needed and after a little practice, you will create a simple linocut design ready for printing. A good choice of craft materials will be provided. Tea and coffee are included but bring your own lunch. Booking essential.

November 12: An Afternoon with Delphiniums, Wisley

The Delphinium Society offers practical advice on their plant group for beginners and experts alike, 1.30-4pm, Hillside Events Centre.

November 17: Christmas shopping evening, Hyde Hall
20 per cent off all stock within the retail shop, (exclusions apply). Christmas market with up to 30 independent stall holders and a catering offer.

November 18-January 7: Winter Garden Illuminations, Rosemoor
The garden will be illuminated by innovative hi-tech, dynamic, constantly colour-changing lighting to create a magical trail around the trees and shrubs.

November 19: The Snow Queen, Rosemoor
Indoor live theatre production of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Snow Queen by Quantum Theatre.
Two performances, with only 100 seats for each one at noon and 3pm. Tickets £8 adult/£6 children, plus normal garden admission. Call RHS events booking line on 0203 176 5830.

November 19-February 19: Winter Sculpture, Rosemoor
The Winter Sculpture exhibition features an eclectic mix of exhibits from a diverse collection of sculptors, using a variety of media from steel and glass to cement and pottery. Most of the pieces are for sale. Free, guided walks leave the Visitor Centre at 11.30am most Wednesday mornings.

November 19: Care of the Fruit Garden in Winter, Wisley

November 23-27: Christmas Craft Fair, Wisley
The Christmas Contemporary Craft Fair has a wealth of original items made by talented designer craftsman and artists. Craft In Focus has selected the best of these to showcase. Make time for a visit to the garden and the warmth of the glasshouse. Wednesday-Saturday, 9am-6pm and Sunday 9am-5pm.

November 24: Christmas Cocktails, Wisley
Spend the morning learning how to prepare and grow ingredients for making botanical cocktails. In the afternoon you will create wonderful drinks, with expert bartenders from The Botanist. You must be over 18 as this session will involve tasting alcohol – and get someone to drive you there and pick you up! Includes a light lunch and refreshments, 10.30am-4pm. Booking essential.

November 25-27: Children’s Magic of Christmas, Hyde Hall
Come and say hello to Santa and his elf, and listen to a special Christmas story. Afterwards, have fun making a range of seasonal art and craft items. Booking essential.

November 25: Birds in the Garden with the RSPB, Rosemoor

November 26: Christmas Decorations from your Garden, Wisley
Inspiration on ways to turn twigs, bark, seed heads and other unassuming items from your garden into charming, rustic decorations. 10.15am-4.15pm. Booking essential.

November 26-27: Paper To Petals – Christmas Flowers, Rosemoor
Craft demonstrations making flowers from crepe paper to decorate your home this Christmas. Come along and have a go 11am-1pm and 2-4pm.

November 30: Christmas Shopping Evening and Light Switch On, Wisley
Jigantics lights will be switched on at 6.30pm and enjoy a late-night shopping evening until 8.30pm.
