Lubera’s big croppers in little spaces

Fruit specialist Lubera has been looking at the challenges of growing fruit in small gardens or even balconies and last year produced the Lowberries range, bred for maximum crops in tiny spaces.
Varieties within the range – Lilibarber, Black Prince, Red Princess, and Blue Wonder – can be grown and harvested simply and without problems in the garden, on a balcony or terrace, and they are no taller than a 1m.
New for 2017 is the first of Lubera’s Lowfruit varieties, Mini Apple Gulliver. This sweet and tasty apple will grow no higher than 1m, making it perfect for growing in a container on your balcony or patio. A 2-year-old dwarf tree in a 10-litre pot costs £30.40.

Also new for this year is the Lowberry Blackcurrant Little Black Sugar. Modern, mildew-resistant blackcurrants usually have fairly vigorous growth and a height up to 2m. Little Black Sugar combines resistance to

It is also very bushy and well-branched. Every year, 2-3 of the older branches should be removed in order to stimulate new shoots, ensuring the best quality crop. A strong shrub in a 5-litre pot costs £15.90.
