Multi-coloured flowers on the same plant

It’s the Year of the Marigold* and the best thing we can all do is not use them traditionally in lines with alyssum and lobelia as boring bedding!

Thankfully, there has been a lot of new introductions during the past couple of years, which look great packed into random containers in tropical-style settings – and don’t forget planting them next to tomatoes to ward off whitefly.

New French Marigold Fireball F1 from Johnsons is compact, with multi-coloured and crested blooms on the same plant. It’s ideal for containers and adding zingy colour to small gardens, patios and urban environments, Mexican-style.

Sow French Marigolds now

It’s a half-hardy annual which can be sown from now until April or direct sown outdoors in April/May. The flowers appear from June to October.

Fireball F1 is available from selected garden retailers and online at www.johnsons-seeds.com (RRP £2.75 – enough seeds for 35 plants).

*A flower and veg of the year are chosen by Fleuroselect, the international organisation for the ornamental plants industry – it’s also the Year of the Pepper.
