Mr Fothergill’s introductions for the new season
A new and exclusive large-flowered sweet pea named after a horticultural college has been unveiled by Mr Fothergill’s.
The variety, Capel Manor, was officially named at the company’s annual press day by Malcolm Goodwin, the college’s principal.
Capel Manor offers a range of courses based on horticulture and the environment and Mr Fothergill’s has a long-established relationship with the college.
Students work to produce spring and summer display gardens and Mr Fothergill’s presents an award for exceptional students every year.
Blooms and fragrance
These are the new varieties:
- Capel Manor: large, Spencer-type, frilly two-tone deep purple-blue blooms that are lightly scented.
- Teresa Maureen: dwarf, compact and highly scented, it has a mass of small flowers in pink, white and lavender shades.
- Balcony Mixed: a blend of large white frilly blooms with coloured markings in red, orange, pink, blue, purple and magenta, perfect for large patio pots.
- Terry Wogan: a warm salmon-rose colour which is more intense on the petal edges and large fragrant blooms.
All of these sweet peas cost £2.35 for a packet of 20 seeds, available from Mr Fothergill’s retail stockists, from the latest seed catalogue or online at www.mr-fothergills.co.uk.
