Bright, affordable British products to encourage youngsters to get growing

Wandering around Glee (the UK’s huge gardening and outdoor living exhibition, not the programme) this year, one stand, in particular, caught my eye – Briers.

They’re a British-based family firm which specialises in gloves, boots and gardening accessories but it was their children’s range that I liked best.

Brightly coloured unisex wellies, gloves, seats, tools and toys, even a play house and paint your own gnome set will really encourage kids to get stuck in – and they’re all very affordable.

This is just a taste of the range – my favourites:

Perfect Christmas gifts

  • Kids Garden Tool Bag Set, £14.99: Includes tool bag, mini watering can, mini hand rake, trowel and fork.
  • Kids Junior Digger Green & Orange Gloves, £3.79: Fits approximately ages five-nine with one-piece liner and an elasticated design for a snug fit.
  • Kids Wheelbarrow, £29.99: Lets little helpers move around garden rubbish, fallen leaves or even toys.
  • Kids Bright Wellington Boots, from £12.99: Sizes five-13, 100% cotton lining, waterproof.
  • Kids Large Bug Box Set, £7.99: Learn close-up about the natural world. Catch all sorts of little creatures from beetles, bugs, butterflies to ants.
  • Kids Paint Your Own Gnome NEW: The canvas to get creative and encouraging play outside.
  • Kids Play House NEW: Part of a collection of play tents, width 70cm, height 104cm, depth 95cm.

‘Inspire, educate and encourage’

A spokesman said: “Briers kids range aims to inspire, educate and encourage children to get into the garden.

“The collection is in coordinating bright fun colours for children to grow and nurture the garden.

“As the most extensive range of children’s gardening gloves, footwear and accessories in the UK, we are constantly driving innovation and developing new products that encourage children to not only learn about gardening but also to have fun outside – underpinned by great value and quality!”
