Ideal way for horticultural students and to take first design steps
It’s a daunting task for even the brightest of young designers – creating a show garden at a prestigious national show.
For a first-timer, a show garden can be intimidating in terms of sponsorship, resources, time and investment.
However, BBC Gardeners’ World Live has the solution – its Beautiful Borders category are a major attraction at the show.
At just 7.5m2, each Beautiful Border is more manageable and visitors can translate the ideas into their gardens.
Dynamic, eye-catching small space
The theme for 2019 is ‘Our Space’ which offers up a chance to be creative with the use of plants to create a dynamic, eye-catching small space with a sense of purpose.
Nikki Hollier, Platinum Award winner and Best Border in 2018, said: “I loved creating a Beautiful Border at BBC Gardeners’ World Live – it was a well-organised event and a great brand to work with.
“I would recommend anyone to exhibit and create a garden – it’s stressful at times but worth it!
“The team were so organised and want you to do well, it’s in their interests to make sure you are successful.
“I made friends with my garden neighbours and created some fabulous memories.”
James Lanwarne of Lanwarne Landscapes, winners of a Gold Award for their Beautiful Border in 2016 and Gold Award for their subsequent Show Garden in 2017 explains how doing a Beautiful Border “created a positive energy around the business” and that “You can’t rely on things just happening, you’ve got to get out there!”
