New varieties available from Johnsons
With more and more people wanting to go totally organic, one seed company has made it that little bit easier for the ordinary gardener.
Johnsons has added an extra 18 varieties to its organic range for the 2019 season.
Even if you garden organically, many of the seeds you buy won’t be, unless they’re clearly marked as such, meaning that chemicals will probably have been used somewhere in the production or growing process.
Rise in organic sales
Brand manager Helen Clayton said: “We have seen a definite rise in sales of our organic varieties over the past few years, increasing by 79 per cent since 2015.
“Topping that list is our Tomato Gardeners Delight organic variety which has risen 169 per cent over the same period. It is also a growing trend across Europe and we believe it will continue as more and more people choose to switch to organic gardening.”
Organic seed of the most popular vegetable categories are now available in the Johnsons range and all have been approved by Organic Farmers and Growers Ltd, one of the UK’s largest organic control organisations.
Seeds not exposed to any chemicals
The seeds are not exposed to any chemicals at the growth, harvesting or processing stages and just like standard seeds, you don’t need a large space to grow organically – a window box or patio pots are ideal.
