RHS Chelsea 2019: celebrities, veterans and quirks!

Royals and stars out in force

Chelsea Flower Show always has a heavy dusting of celebrity sparkle, from hardy perennials like Joanna Lumley, a well-known garden lover and HM The Queen.

However, I always wonder why some people have been invited on VIP/press day – comedian John Bishop didn’t seem to have a clue or any interest in gardening in his interview with Joe Swift!

There’s also that other press day staple, a model/singers/dancers performing or posing on a show garden.

Blue in more ways than one…

The poor model painted entirely blue with strategic white decoration to emulate Josiah Wedgwood’s jasperware on The Wedgwood Garden had to be the raciest outfit (or lack of) yet!

From one extreme to the other, the real stars are the ones who usually stay out of the limelight – the Chelsea Pensioners (we do invade their home on a yearly basis).

However, this year’s Normandy Veterans D-Day Revisited Garden commemoration garden in front of the Royal Hospital was a fitting meeting point for the residents.

And Teddy, the little Shetland Pony has to have the last word… so bored with the proceedings, he yawned for the camera.
