Excellent results in cooler climates
Three new varieties of sweet potato which have given good crops in UK trials have been unveiled by DT Brown.
The Erato varieties have been tested extensively in many areas of the country for the past two years and the company has been impressed by the quality and quantity of crop produced.
DT Brown’s general manager Tim Jeffries said: “Our customers really enjoy growing sweet potatoes and sales are increasing year on year, so we are really pleased to find varieties which crop more reliably in the UK.”
Colourful sweet potato varieties
The Erato varieties – Erato Deep Orange, Erato Gusto and Erato Violet are not just for the home gardener either – they are now cultivated by commercial growers for their reliability, uniformity and increased yields.
Easy to grow, plant them out in ridges, just like normal seed potatoes, with the first crops ready for harvesting from September into October.
They are also ideal for growing in large containers in a sunny spot. Once harvested, the crop can be kept and stored for several months to enjoy through the winter.
Available as packs of 5 young plants priced at £9.95 or as a collection of 15 young plants (5 of each) for £19.90, saving £9.95, despatch from mid-May.
