Grow Some Sunshine Campaign to support NHS heroes

Donate to NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent Appeal and get free sunflower seeds

In these uncertain times, there is one thing which we can always be sure of, NHS and other frontline workers will go above and beyond what is needed to look after us with all the care and love possible.

When the Burpee Europe team was approached by gardening expert David Hurrion to donate a mountain of free Sunflower ‘Pikes Peak’ seeds for a campaign to support these amazing heroes, they jumped at the chance!

The Grow Some Sunshine Campaign is all about bringing families and communities together to grow giant sunflower seeds so their happy faces will shine out as an enormous thank you to the NHS teams that are at the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Join the Crowdfunder campaign

This Crowdfunder campaign will allow everyone to grow a crop of sunflowers in recognition of the huge effort made by the NHS and essential workers, as a beacon of hope for the end of the pandemic and to make the country smile too!

Donate now and you’ll be sent eight giant Pike’s Peak sunflower seeds to sow and grow. Join the Grow Some Sunshine Facebook page to post your growing stories and sunflower photos and you’ll be able to see who grows the tallest and biggest flowers.

Grow Some Sunshine is a great way to get children and adults to nurture seeds and plants – plus everyone can be involved in comparing and sharing their results on social media. Later in the year, there’ll be huge sunflower seedheads that’ll help feed our garden birds and wildlife.

Videos to help you

With YouTube videos on How to Sow Your Seeds, as well as follow-ups about aftercare and planting out your sunflowers, you’ll have plenty of advice to ensure success.

The people behind the campaign are David Hurrion and Fran Suermondt, in conjunction with Burpee Europe which has donated seeds of the huge Sunflower Pike’s Peak.

Money raised will go to the NHS Charities Together COVID-19 Urgent Appeal, which supports NHS frontline staff and volunteers caring for COVID-19 patients in hospitals around the UK. Each donation is subject to basic packing and postage charges, together with fees incurred using Crowdfunder. The aim is for you to receive seeds within 5 days of your donation.
