Confused by a vast choice of dahlias? Try these perfectly colour co-ordinated sets
Dahlias have gone from being extremely unfashionable to everyone’s favourite late-summer star in a very short time.
Only a few years ago, they were the preserve of obsessive flower show growers striving to grow blooms the size of dinner plates or grown in a cutting bed for use in vases.
However, their vast range of shapes, sizes and colours means they’re ideals for beds, border and even pots – that’s how I grow mine.
It can be tricky to pick from such a vast number of cultivars on the market, so experts Woolmans have made it easy for you by launching these new exclusive dahlia collections.
Dazzling late-season colour
Dahlias flower from July to November, providing dazzling colour in the autumn months when other plants have finished flowering – and the more you cut, the more flowers you get!
All five collections are available to buy as tubers or 3-litre potted plants. Tubers are all top size, field grown and are hand graded to ensure the best quality. The 3-litre potted dahlia plants have large and very well-developed root systems and can be planted straight out into the garden.
Tom Stimpson of Woolmans said: “We are thrilled with these new collections, carefully selected from our dahlia trials. Each one offers a glorious colour mix, whether in the garden or displayed in the home as cut flowers.”.
The five new dahlia collections are:
Blackcurrant Cassis Collection (main picture)
Made up of Profundo, Sweet Lady and Maroon Fox, in shades of deep plum, maroon and fuchsia.
Cinnamon and Cloves Collection
Including Black Touch, Karma Fiesta and Salmon Runner, in spicy shades of salmon and plum.
Blueberry Mojito Collection
Karma Prospero, Ambition and Pink Runner create a stunning intense and paler pink selection.
Spiced Plum Collection
Linda’s Baby, Zirconia and Zundert Mystery Fox make a stunning contrast in deep plum and peach.
Mr Frans, Lakeland Autumn and Safe Shot do exactly what they say on the tin, creating the effect of a beautiful sunset in shades of peach, apricot and pink.
Tubers of all dahlias mentioned are available to buy individually for £4.95 each or as a collection for £11.85, saving £3. The 3-litre potted plants are available individually for £9.95 or as a collection for £19.90, saving £9.95.
Tubers are despatched from early April and 3-litre potted plants from late May. For more information visit www.woolmans.com.
