Well priced and ideal for the beginner or less-able gardeners

If you took up gardening in pots during lockdown and are looking for the next step in growing veg, Forest Garden has launched a new range of wooden planters and raised beds that will suit you to a tee.

They’re also ideal for less-able gardeners, as the Kitchen Garden Planters are 70cm tall. The range also includes an ingenious, raised, tomato grow bag container, so no more bending.

Head of marketing at Forest Garden, Lynsey Grinnell, said: “As with many garden industry companies, our sales really took off during the lockdown.

“From the many hundreds of products we sell, it was the grow-your-own ranges which sold like hot cakes. We couldn’t supply planters and raised beds fast enough.

“We hope our new range, designed with the novice kitchen gardener in mind, will inspire all these new gardeners to make 2021 an even more bountiful year of home growing.”

Kitchen Garden Planters

At 29cm deep, Forest Garden’s Kitchen Planters are the perfect depth for growing herbs and salads. Basil, chives, mint and tarragon thrive in shallower soils, as do lettuce, radishes, pak-choi and celery. They’re ideal for broccoli, spinach and strawberries.

The planters come in either 1m or 1.8m and their height (70cm) makes it easy to tend your crops.  Each planter is supplied with instructions for self-assembly and the timber is pressure treated to protect against rot.

Forest Garden recommends lining the planter with a porous membrane before adding soil. The 1.8m planter requires 250 litres of compost and the smaller one 130 litres.

Large Kitchen Planter 70(h) x 180(w) x 70(d)cm, £119.99. Small Kitchen Planter 70(h) x 100(w) x 70(d)cm, £74.99.

Grow Bag Tray Container

Why did no-one think of this before? (Possibly they did, but I’ve not seen it and certainly not at this price.) The Grow Bag Tray Container encloses unsightly growbags and makes the tending of your crops more accessible, ideal if your mobility is limited.

It is designed around the standard 100cm long x 40cm wide grow bag and features a crossbar for securing canes. This product comes flat packed, with pressure treated wood to protect against rot and a 15-year ant-rot guarantee. Obviously, you need your own grow bag tray and grow bag!

Grow Bag Tray Container measures 60(h) x 115(w) x 55(cm), £74.99.

Caledonian Raised Beds

The Caledonian range of raised beds offers options suitable for sizes of gardens, no matter how small. The beds are made using strong 40mm thick timbers that are 140mm deep and have been notched at the ends so they can be easily assembled, with half-lap joints at each corner.

All that is required to put the bed together is four supplied screws, one in each corner. The wood is pressure treated to protect against rot and comes with a 15-year guarantee.

Caledonian Raised Bed Compact 90 x 90cm, £39.99; Long 45 x 180cm, £44.99; Large 90 x 180cm, £59.99.
