There are some fascinating new varieties for the new season which you just won’t find anywhere else. Here are some of the highlights…
Rosa chinensis Angel Wings
Sweetly-scented blooms, in shades from pink to white, appear on this beautiful miniature rose, which is perfect for growing in pots. If grown in the ground it will become a low growing shrub. This Fairy Rose is a Polyantha, with clusters of blooms, produced in waves from late spring until autumn. They can flower in a matter of months from seed. Hardy shrub, height 30-60cm, price £2.95, contents 20 (approx).
Primula alpicola violacea
This spectacular scented primula from Tibet is a very easy clump-forming, extremely hardy long-lived garden plant flowering from May into June. It thrives in cool, humid situations, where it will self-seed. Thriving well with other moisture-loving plants such as Astilbe, its rich, sweetly scented perfume from the violet flowers is carried around the garden on still June evenings. Hardy perennial, height 30-45cm, £2.90, contents 15 (approx).
Euphorbia Dwarf Black Pearl
Grey-green whorls of foliage bear sprays of bright green flowers, each with a darkest maroon, almost black eye. Bursting with sweet nectar these striking flowers, which open in spring and stay in place until the first frosts, are a magnet for bees and butterflies and excels in dry gardens. Hardy perennial, height 50-80cm, price £2.95, contents 10 (approx).
This is a completely new flower created at Plant World Seeds, by crossing Linaria purpurea with Linaria dalmatica. The result is a strong-growing vigorous plant, taller than its parents, bearing sizeable heads of chalky, bluish-purple “snapdragon” flowers, a new colour in this genus, with attractive rubbery grey foliage. A worthy new addition to the middle or back of the border. Hardy perennial, 60cm-1m, price £2.75.
Raspberry Black Jewel
Very rarely available, seeds of this exciting, completely hardy plant, produce vigorous, fast-growing and erect black raspberry plants. The fruits are large and darkest purple-black, full of anthocyanins. They are less tart than blackberries, which makes them better for eating fresh, although they also make good jams. Black raspberries are the first raspberries to ripen and can be harvested in two or three passes. It also has beautiful white-backed foliage on long, attractive, bluish-white canes, and is less susceptible to cane diseases and root death. Hardy shrub, height 1.5-2m, £2.95, contents 20 (approx).
Radish Logo F1
A new hybrid ‘French Breakfast’ type with vigorous and uniform emergence. Roots are 4-5cm long, bright scarlet with a small white tip. A very versatile variety, suitable for early and main season production. Price £1.95, contents 200 (approx).
