The beauty of blooms in the Floral Pavilion and Borderline awards
Harrogate Autumn Flower Show is not all about giant veg – there’s a clue in the name – watch out for the flowers and floristry too.
The Floral Pavilion is chock full of more than 5,000 stunning exhibition blooms in a multitude of classes. Centre stage are the dahlias and chrysanthemums, of course, some as big as your head.
To be honest, I prefer my flowers a little less perfect in a garden setting. These blooms are so exquisite, they almost look as if they’re computer-generated. It’s the colour blends of the dahlias which really catch my eye, especially the ones that look like sunsets or cocktails. Read into that what you will. I’ve included my favourites. Flowers and floristry – NAFAS displays
The National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies (NAFAS)’s northern branch used crafts as its theme this year. Here are the highlights. Celebrity florist Jonathan Moseley created an installation along with interior specialist Furnish and Fettle, based on how to make the best of seasonal blooms. Borderline
This is an excellent example of how to inspire ordinary gardeners. Designers or organisations get a border measuring just 3.6m x 1.8m or 2.4 x 1.2m to play with. There are some lovely planting combinations here, most easy to grow and obtain by all. Congratulations to Horticap for winning two golds!
