National Growing for Wellbeing Week

Gardening for good mental and physical health, June 3-9

It’s good to know that Life at No. 27’s founder, Annabelle Padwick – find out more about her story – has launched National Growing for Wellbeing Week, so we can all benefit.

The message of the week is that growing your own produce can do wonders for your well-being, both physically and mentally. About one in four people in the UK will experience mental ill health each year. Getting outdoors and gardening in the fresh air will obviously improve your physical health.

I’ve always been a vocal advocate of gardening for well-being. Read more about the positive role in coping with COVID.

National Growing for Wellbeing Week – How gardening can help mental health

However, there’s strong evidence that gardening, especially growing your own, can lead to improved confidence, communication, concentration and self-belief. School activity resource packs are available for teaching staff, with full how-to guides and National Curriculum details.

The packs contain eight fun and easy activities you can do in or out of the classroom. They involve not just gardening but Maths, Science, Literacy, PSHE and Art. Email enquiries@lifeatno27.com to receive a free copy.

Get involved by sharing your favourite gardening photos, stories and thoughts throughout the week across social media. Tag in @GYOWellbeingWk on Facebook, X and Instagram, then use the hashtag #GYOforWellbeing.
