From top suppliers to folklore
Welcome to the gardening useful information section – or rather, a rag-tag of oddments that don’t really fit under any other headings. However, dismiss them at your peril – there are a lot of bits and bobs in here, not least my useful links. They’ve been compiled over my time as MandyCanUDigIt and in a lifetime of gardening before that.
You’ll find suppliers of plants and seeds, sundries and art, and not just any old company gets in – I have to have had dealings with them, and positive ones at that.
I speak as I find. If a company’s been unhelpful or products haven’t worked, then they’re not on the list, as an over-zealous doorman might say. Some people may not like my inclusion of the big seed companies, but every firm has its place. The information’s there for you to use.
Soil and compost are the keys
There are also a couple of articles on soil pH testing and compost you might find handy. They’re ‘worthy but dull’ as we used to say back in my newspaper days. However, they’re topics that can seem baffling to new gardeners but are well worth getting the hang of. Knowing your soil means you are aware of what you can and can’t grow. And making your own compost is seen as the holy grail of many a gardener. It’s so good for your plants and costs nothing.

Then from the sublime to the ridiculous (one of my favourites) – plant folklore and a subject, I’m sure to add to in the future. There’s also a brief overview of the best companion plants to help organic gardeners. We have a lot to learn from our ancestors’ methods. They didn’t have the technology or chemicals we have, just generations of knowledge and experience, much of which we seem to have forgotten.
