Parsnip TZ9045 hailed by show bench growers
We all love exhibition veg, whether we grow them or not, and a British-bred exhibition and culinary parsnip has caused a stir among National Vegetable Society (NVS) members. DT Brown included a trial packet of parsnip TZ9045 F1 in an issue of the NVS’s Simply Veg magazine to gauge members’ opinions. Feedback was so good, the company offered the parsnip seed in the Fruit and Vegetable Grower’s Seed and Plant Catalogue.
The variety is already making its mark on the show benches, with its clean, white skin. One grower at the Malvern Autumn Show said he had been able to enter the same parsnip root into two different shows, two weeks apart, which is virtually unheard of in the world of exhibiting vegetables.
Exhibition and culinary parsnip – ‘remarkable and outstanding’
Leading parsnip exhibitor Jim Pearson regards TZ9045 as ‘a remarkable and outstanding new variety for the show bench’. It is also an excellent culinary variety, with a shallow crown and canker resistance. The roots are harvestable for up to six months and are long and plump, with a lovely sweet flavour. Each packet contains 200 seeds.
