The word ‘hack’ is a bone of contention with me (I just don’t like the word, sorry), but there my criticism ends. Shawna’s book, based on ideas that work in her own garden, is a real inspiration, especially if you’re short on cash. And let’s face it, who isn’t these days?

There’s a garden bench she created from leftover wood posts and a few cinder blocks, or the rows of wine bottles buried soldier-style along a winding pathway. (I had one of these with beer bottles, but I couldn’t drink fast enough to finish it).
