Smutty but botanically accurate garments…
Without a doubt, these T-shirts and sweatshirts from Rude Botany are on to a winner (for the likes of me anyway) and score 10 out of 10 on the snigger-fest scale. Rude but real plant Latin names satisfy my not-so-inner nerd and rebel. If anyone objects, you’re only displaying a plant’s name on your chest! With a large dose of seaside postcard humour, the selection includes my all-time favourite Rubus cockburnianus (a white-stemmed bramble) and Clitoria ternatea (Asian pigeonwings)!
The brainchild of Michael Perry, aka Mr Plant Geek, he’s been responsible for introducing hundreds of new plants to the UK, including the Egg and Chips plant (aubergine/potato grafted plant) and the edible Fuchsia Berry for Thompson & Morgan.
Rude Botany t-shirts raise money for male cancer
As a bonus, Michael Perry’s range of T-shirts has joined forces with the Orchid Male Cancer Charity. For every T-shirt sale of Philadelphus erectus, Rubus cockburnianus and Phallus impudicus, 10 per cent will be donated to fight cancer. The charity is dedicated to helping anyone affected by male cancer (prostate, testicular and penile) or their family and friends. Founded in 1996 by testicular cancer patient Colin Osborne MBE and oncologist Professor Tim Oliver, Orchid aims to save men’s lives through support services, education, awareness campaigns and research.
All T-shirts come in a choice of colours, in men’s and women’s sizes. There is also a large selection of not-so-rude T-shirts relating to gardening on the site.
