Mental health and gardening – MandyCanUDigIt’s story

Blog: My experiences and overcoming anxiety and depression

Mental health and gardening are in the news a lot these days and for good reason. Horticulture helps so many to cope, including me. Talking about mental health issues is never easy. Thanks to the new openness about conditions, I’ve been able to talk about my problems with depression and anxiety.

I’ve written about my experiences – and it’s great to have sites like Life at No.27 and Annabelle, who has taken mental health awareness and gardening to a new level.

Mental health and gardening – my story

Anyway, I made this video a few weeks back and still felt unsure about posting it. Sharing some of your darkest days really isn’t easy. However, thanks to watching Gardeners’ World and the wise words of Will Young and Monty Don, both of whom are great advocates of gardening helping with depression and anxiety, I felt I could finally post it.

The depression’s at bay, but the anxiety still bites at my heels – like a garden, it’s a work in progress. The best advice I can give is to share your feelings with friends and family. See your GP and get gardening – it really will help.
