2020’s contestants and show gardens announced
Four young landscapers will compete to win the title of BBC Gardeners’ World Live Young Landscapers Award 2020.
The landscapers, who took the top spots at the WorldSkills UK finals, are:
- Nick Bundy from Gadd Brothers in Suffolk (Gold).
- Jamie Franklin from Wiltshire College (Silver).
- Mark Brown from CAFRE in Northern Ireland (Bronze).
- Patrick Neild from Pershore College (Highly Commended).
Mark Gregory, of award-winning landscaping company Landform, has presented the two show garden designs for front gardens to the contestants. Read more about show gardens at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2018.
Young Landscapers Award competitors on show to 100,000 visitors
As two teams of two, they construct their allotted gardens at BBC Gardeners’ World Live and are assessed on June 17. More than 100,000 visitors viewed the gardens between June 18 and 21 at The NEC in Birmingham.
Mark said: “We, at Landform, love the involvement with the Young Landscapers Award at BBC Gardeners’ World Live 2020. We have come up with two exciting, yet challenging, front garden designs. Both gardens are very different. They use a variety of materials to show how it’s possible to create a beautiful and practical space, despite being small.
‘Thoroughly challenged’
“The teams will be thoroughly challenged to deliver the quality and tolerances the industry requires, especially given the time they have to create them. Front gardens are all too often overlooked, disappointing and bland. They can be transformed, with even a relatively simple design. Let’s not forget, first impressions count!”
Phil Tremayne is the general manager of sponsors The Association of Professional Landscapers (APL). He said: “It is fantastic that BBC Gardeners’ World Live has decided to support this competition again for 2020. To allow these young, up-and-coming talents to build at this level, with mentorship from one of the best landscapers in the country, is truly amazing. Supporting the industry, as well as the youth and career-changers entering it, combined with our high industry standards, is at the heart of what we do.”
BBC Gardeners’ World Live runs from June 18-21 at The NEC Birmingham. For information and tickets, visit bbcgardenersworldlive.com.
