Sustainable gardening pioneer Neudorff’s product supplied in greener bottles
Neudorff launched its new sulphur-based Mildew Clear for Edibles for powdery mildew at the gardening trade show Glee. The company works with active ingredients from plants and other natural resources wherever possible to treat pests and diseases. Now, the company’s 250ml concentrate bottles are being converted to a more environmentally friendly 90 per cent recycled plastic. This will see an annual saving of around 7.5 tons of CO2 – the equivalent of planting 600 beech trees. This means the company can cut its use of virgin plastics by 4.7 tons per year. That’s enough to produce 11,000 watering cans. All Neudorff’s bottles are 100 per cent recyclable.
Guy Jenkins, consumer manager at Neudorff’s UK distribution Partner, DLF Seeds Ltd, said: “The fact that Neudorff has the widest range of products certified by the Organic Farmers and Growers’ Association underpins its dedication to helping garden retail achieve unprecedented levels of sustainability.
“Twenty years ago, Neudorff led the market by repurposing wastepaper for its packaging. To this day, it strives to use renewable, local raw materials wherever possible. Electricity is generated using hydropower and photovoltaics. The company utilises waste heat from a nearby biogas plant, saving around 350,000kWh of natural gas per year.”
New Mildew Clear For Edibles to wipe out powdery mildew
Tackling powdery mildew on edible and ornamental garden plants will become easier with the launch of Mildew Clear for Edibles. Available for the first time at retailers, Mildew Clear for Edibles targets fungal diseases on vegetables, fruit, grapevines and flowers.
Powdery mildew results in unsightly patches of fungus that form on leaves and stems. Foliage can become distorted while growth is stunted, leading to poor yields and disappointing blooms. It is prevalent in dry conditions on courgettes, gooseberries, grapes, cucumbers, peas and marrows, delphiniums, azaleas, roses and honeysuckle.
