The nursery also has a few mature plants of the new introduction clematis Saphyra® Indigo, which is due to launch this summer. If you’re a clematis fan, be one step ahead and order one now.

Now one of the country’s top independent clematis and climbers specialists selling almost 450 varieties. Most plants are UK-grown in 3-litre containers. The firm has a vast knowledge of the plants, nurtured over decades of growing them. Thorncroft Clematis has won many RHS gold medals, with 12 at RHS Chelsea alone.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, a Special Spring Open Weekend hosted by Newleaf Plants, Sandfield Lane, Evesham, Worcestershire

Malvern Spring Flower Show

Once again, Thorncroft Clematis will be exhibiting at the Malvern Spring Flower Show. The firm has decided to concentrate on Malvern rather than returning to RHS Chelsea. Many people have asked the reason why. Peter Thorncroft said: Although my parents retired back in 2017, we were lucky that they stayed on to do the Chelsea Flower Show along with a great team of friends and helpers right up until 2019.

“However after COVID-19, my parents and many of our friends and helpers have moved on, and some simply no longer feel able to do such long and exhausting days.

“We are also reluctant to close the nursery itself while exhibiting at a show because it takes too long to catch up once we return and it has a negative impact on the efficiency of the mail order service which our customers rely on.

Why Thorncroft Clematis isn’t at RHS Chelsea

“As such we’ve decided to make the Malvern Spring Flower Show our prime show for the year because it is near to the nursery and we can easily make it back each day and keep up with the urgent orders. Any new clematis we introduce will be at the Malvern Spring Flower Show for the time being, not Chelsea.”

As a specialist independent nursery, business throughout the winter months is vital to keep them going. They are the lifeblood of our gardening nation. Feel free to place orders now to beat the spring rush – you can select Spring Delivery at the checkout.
