A new owner of one of the UK’s biggest gardening brands

One of the biggest household names in UK gardening, Thompson & Morgan, has been bought out by the BVG Group. The BVG Group acquired 100 per cent of the share capital of Branded Garden Products, Thompson & Morgan’s (T&M) parent company. It estimates that the new combined group will turn over around £140million per year.

The BVG Group is a market leader in direct sales in its field. The group sells sporting supplements, fishing tackle, footwear, clothing, and home and garden products. It owns brands including Telegraph Shop, Mirror Reader Offers, Clifford James and Mercia Garden Products, with a strong background in e-commerce and multi-channel marketing.

Thompson & Morgan bought out – what it means for customers

Recent additions to the T&M range of seeds and plug plants include:

  • Garden-ready plants
  • Nursery stock
  • The Van Meuwen range of budget packet seed, hedging, and aquatic plants
  • Gardening sundries such as compost, fertiliser, etc.

BVG is based in Brecon, Powys, Wales, with a distribution centre in Skelmersdale, Lancashire. The Ipswich home of Thompson & Morgan stays the same. Founded in 1855, the company is proud of its East Anglian roots. It will continue to be run as a separate business with its current management team working with BVG.
